Sankarin koti / Domesticated Hero
Yksi Kari Soinion taiteen näkyvimpiä piirteitä on ollut perinteisen mieskuvan rikkominen. Käyttäen itseään kuviensa mallina Soinio on rohkeasti kyseenalaistanut totuttuja ajatustapoja katsomisesta, maskuliinisuudesta ja miehen ruumiista. Näitä mieskuvia hän on kuvannut jo kaksikymmentä vuotta, ja Sankarin koti -näyttely jatkaa hänen aiempien teossarjojensa teemojen käsittelyä. Sankarin koti -teossarja näyttää aikaisemmasta tuotannosta tutun hahmon uusissa ympäristöissä. Aiemmin luonnon ja kaupunginkin maisemissa seikkaillut sankari on nyt siirtynyt kodin ja puutarhan yksityiseen piiriin.Luonnossa koettava vapaus ja aistillisuus tulevat osaksi kodin kontrolloitua ja piilotettua maailmaa. Koti muuttuu miehen ruumiillisuutta, maskuliinisuuden ja feminiinisyyden, seksuaalisuuden ja sensuaalisuuden vuoropuhelua heijastavaksi mielen maisemaksi. Yhtenä hetkenä mies keikistelee kameralle, toisena hän vajoaa synkkyyteen.

Domesticated Hero
Much of Kari Soinios art has focused on subverting traditional constructs of masculinity. Using himself as the model, he has sought to question received notions of manhood, the male body and the very act of viewing and seeing itself. He has been creating these images for more than twenty years, and in his latest exhibition, the Domesticated Hero, he continues to explore the themes addressed in the earlier series. The Domesticated Hero presents the character, already familiar from earlier works, in a new environment. Formerly pictured in natural and urban settings, he now retreats to the intensely private setting of the house and garden. The freedom and sensuality of nature is brought into the tightly managed and well-hidden domestic sphere. The home becomes an interior landscape, the reflection of a dialogue between masculinity and femininity, sexuality and sensuality. One moment we see our hero flirting with the camera, the next plunged into despair.
